Frequently asked questions
Paws4Life is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit transport organization based in Shreveport, Louisiana. We do not operate a shelter or house animals. Instead, we coordinate lifesaving transport for rescued dogs and cats, working with rescue partners and foster networks to help animals reach safety and new opportunities.
A transport is a coordinated trip that safely moves rescued dogs and cats from Louisiana and East Texas to rescue organizations and adoption partners in other regions where adoptive homes are more readily available. These transports give animals a second chance at finding loving families in the United States.
Paws4Life generally organizes one or two transports every month. The number of transports and animals accepted depend on factors such as:The period of time the owner, finder or local foster can continue to care for the pet pending transport. The pet's ability to meet the screening requirements for a veterinarian's health certificate as defined by the receiving adoption organization's state department of agriculture. The pet's ability to pass the required behavioral screening. The availability of funds to cover the cost of transport.Whether the transport is to be by ground or air (which imposes additional regulatory requirements). The receiving rescue's capacity to house pets upon receipt and pending adoption.
Because we do not operate a shelter, our intake is subject to the capacity of available foster homes and related rescue resources. Please contact us to discuss your situation, and we'll do our best to help or provide referrals to other rescue organizations when possible.
Our rescued animals are cared for in loving foster homes pending transport to an adoption facility. They receive medical care and socialization in preparation for transport. Because we don't have a shelter facility, foster families are essential to our mission.
No. Paws4Life is a transport and foster-based program. Our mission is to provide safe, lifesaving transport for rescued dogs and cats to approved rescue partners. We do not accept animals into our care or arrange direct adoptions.
Paws4Life is based in Shreveport, Louisiana. We primarily serve Northwest Louisiana and East Texas, where we work with local rescues, shelters, and foster networks to provide lifesaving transport for dogs and cats.
No. Paws4Life is a transport-only organization and does not operate a shelter. All animals accepted for transport remain in the care of their originating rescue organization or foster caregivers until transport.
Animals must first be accepted by one of our approved rescue partners before a transport can be scheduled. We work closely with our partners to ensure that each animal is healthy and ready for travel.
Paws4Life is supported entirely through donations, fundraising, sponsorships, grants, and the generosity of our community.
Yes! We welcome volunteers who want to serve as fosters, help with transports, fundraising, community events, administrative tasks, and otherwise to support our mission.

Yes. As a condition of accepting a puppy or a litter of puppies into our program, the owner must agree to have the mother spayed and, if possible, the father neutered. We believe preventing future litters is an essential part of any responsible rescue and are happy to help connect owners with affordable spay and neuter services whenever possible.
